“Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth…” (Ephesians 6:14). What “truth” is Paul referring to? It must be the Christian virtue of truthfulness and sincerity, rather than the truth of God’s Word which is later identified as the sword of the Spirit.
True believers who belong to Christ and persevere in Christ are those who possess and cultivate truthfulness and sincerity in their inner being. Instead of living in hypocrisy, they are genuine in faith and worship, within and without.
What then is the Christian virtue of truthfulness and sincerity? How can we recognize insincerity and hypocrisy? And what should we do if we see hypocrisy in us?
